System of a Down

I just finished tracking a raw copy for System of a Down's Hypnotize on their upcoming Hypnotize album. I will be redoing all the guits because all the guitars were recorded with my VOX Tonelab which isn't too bad but I prefer the sound of real miked amps.

The drums were

toms-samson q tom mics
overheads- mxl 990's
hi hat mxl- 991

M-audio Audiobuddy preamps -> Mackie VLz1402 -> Delta 44 -> Audition

That was very well done. Drums were kinda pushed back. I am awaiting your next post with vocals.

i didn't do anything as far as mixing or fixing the levels. These are as raw as it gets

What's that saying? You can't carve dead wood? Well, these raw tracks are excellent, and should only get better with mixing. Well done...not really a fan of this genre, but that kicks ass!

Good stuff man.
Clean guitar is real nice tone although sounds a little odd when going into the distorted guitars although im sure it will sound ok with singing over the mix just that justnow the guitar is the centre of attention of the mix.
Kick sounds like an Indie kick rather than a metal kick. Boost those hi mids to fek and cut the lo mids. Snare could do with some beefing up.
All in all sounds real good.

my girlfriend just finished recording her part of her tracks...might i say WOW....astonished...because she can really sing for some one who is 16 without vocal lessons.

System Of A Down is my favorite band and i was so excited to see a thread called System of a down. You did a great job on hypnotize, sounds almost perfect. How did you record the drums? I like them alot. Also, what are you using to record?

I really look forward to the mixed song. Yeah your bird has a real nice voice. Your voice is good too, sounds a bit like Serges but obviously not as operatic! YOu know he used to be an opera singer? or is that a rumour?
Id love to mix these tracks by the way.

thank you..the drums were my shitty groove percussion rip off samash drumset...

Sytem of a down. I liked the song Aerial. I don't really care for the band all that much so I didn't feel like this thread would be something of interest to me.

Anyhoo, just came in thought I'd listen to the recording for the sake of recording and not the band.

I really like the recording. Very cool guitar sound. What's the story behind the snare. Is it how the band does it or something you're doing it? How do you make it fit? I mean when my snare sounds like this, I can't make anything sound good. Here that snare sounds just right, like it is a part of the song.

Anyhoo, good playing. I like the guitar sounds.

Just checkin to see if you are close to finished mixing this track yet. Look forward to hearing it. Heard the original for the first tme a few days ago, gotta say I aint into the tune that much compared to their oghet stuff, but this is a good recording you have so im interested to see how it turns out.
