I don't believe it'll play CDR-Ws. Most CD players won't. If you have a burner, use CD-Rs.

You'll get more joy contacting Sony than here. Received wisdom says CDRWs won't play on standard CD players. Betcha can't do it, though. Do be so kind as to return with a reliably informed answer when you get one, though.

Many players CANNOT read CD-RW because of the laser pickup. Reading CD-RWs requires double the energy due to the much lower pit differentation that allows the RW capability in the first place. Tweaking - in this case really means replacing the laser pickup - no small feat... probably cheaper to just buy a unit that WILL read CD-RW........

Thumbs up

I have two Sony CD players that DO read CDRW's. Here's the Model #'s....

CDP-CE235 (5-disc changer)
CDP-CE265 (5-disc changer)

The CDP-CE235 is a newer unit that has a digital-optical output. That comes in pretty handy if you want to make copies of the RW disc. It costs around $120.
Pretty cheap for such a useful tool.

Buck: did you have to tweak anything, or does it just read CDRWs straightaway? Second question: damn, what do you use two 5-disc players for, anyway?

I've got a Sony that holds 200 CD's and also has an optical output, the CX-225.and it will play CD-RW's as well.I'm pretty sure all the newer Sony's will.

Not necessarily -- you really need to try it to find out... The first Sony DVD players used to read CD-R and CD-RW, now they don't anymore (not sure why - according to the Sony Store salesguy -- he seems to think they have a policy against copying issues with the CD-RW format, but who knows.) Hitachi makes DVD players that read all 4 formats (DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW) -- you may want to look into those units too.

Wink

dobro...
No tweaking involved. If the disc is finalized, it will play, no problem.
Why do I have two CD players?
Well, actually I have more than that.
I've got a stereo system that could drowned-out a Who concert.
I'll need a hearing-aid before I'm forty.... oh well!
