MSR again...shit it possessed

Taking it to the same original tech (only second time, so I guess we'll see) Thursday (day off and an hour drive). OK, when I engage Dolby S (two separate buttons, one for chs 1-8, one for chs 8-16) it still does occasional noises, but I've learned this in recording with it. Dolby engaged brings out the "natural" reverb effects of the samples in the DM Pro. Sounds big and boomy and very effected. Dolby off doesn't do a lot for the natural hiss, but seems to bring out the dry sample sounds of the DM PRO. Now with Dolby engaged it still does some funky things, so I really think the NR is the problem, at least the recipient audiowise of whatever is wrong with the machine. Sound weird?

if the NR isn't helping the hiss (which I find odd), then don't use it.

I haven't been, but I'm not ready to record seriously with the machine until the issues are resolved. Although without the NR engaged it is much better, there are still some transients that intermittently show up. It needs to been set to a "clean slate" in my opinion. That's what I'm looking for.

Just a quick thought...

Are you gettin the "off" switch confused?? ie. sometimes off actually means on and vice versa on noise reduction.

Just a thought anyhow...

There's a led blinkin' when Dolby is engaged.

On the record/playback head wires is a connector, there may be some bad contact there. Disconnect and reconnect them a couple of times, same with the Dolby PCB's, take them out and put them in a few times, it may help.

Actually, they don't blink, they are steadily lit when the Dolby is engaged. No confusion there, just apparently screwed up electronics somewhere along the way.
