Sonar and Reason

Can someone tell me how to integrate the two? I want to record vocals simultaneously with keyboard. Create a wav. I've been told you could run within the other. I need to know how.

Thanks,..

Sonar is going to be your host application - you need to add Reason as a ReWire instrument (ReWire is a communication standard for music programs, kind of like VST). Here's a bit of info (ReWire was actually created by the company who makes Reason):

http://www.propellerheads.se/technol...tion=mainframe

I don't currently have access to my studio (that whole silly employment thing gets in the way sometimes), so I can't check exactly which menu its under, but you're looking for someting like "ReWire..." or "Insert ReWire Device..." - this could be in one of the menus or the DXi window.

In Sonar 3 its under "insert" then "ReWire Device"

What next

I added the Rewire device. So what's next? Do both applications have to be running. Or just Sonar?

Thanks,..

Still need advice

Still need advice. Surely someone knows how to do what I'm wanting to do? Record a track from my M-Audio keyboard and vocals at the same time.

Let me make sure this is what you're asking: You want to play midi in reason as you're recording vocals in Sonar?

Maybe I'm confused, but I want to record in Sonar (while using Reason) both keyboard and vocals simultaneuosly.

I did as mentioned and added as a rewire device. But I don't know how to get it all to work together.

Here's an article (from Cakewalk) on incorporating Reason with their products (its a bit old, but it should be basically accurate.

http://www.cakewalk.com/Tips/April03_AndertonPt1.asp

After reading through here, you should know how to record a MIDI track (with output directed to Reason) in Sonar. I assume you already know how to record a standard audio track. From there, just arm both the target MIDI and audio tracks at the same time, and hit record.

OK, I think you record the midi and vocals into Sonar, then you use Reason as a rewire instrument. So you would set the output of the midi track to reason, after you have added it as a rewire instrument. I think, someone please correct me if im wrong.
