i've used it, it wasn't too bad if you just want to hear the drum but it wasn't very modern sounding

If I recall, the Chili Peppers used a 57 on the kick for some of the songs on Blood Sugar Sex Magic.
It works, but pay carefull attention to placement. You may want to treat it to some EQ'ing, as well. Take care, Chris |

To add to Chris' answer...It'll work for the most part. You'll need to EQ the sound to taste. That becomes trial and error, though. Most modern kick mics have a taylored frequency response designed for the bass drum. It's just a companies interpritation of the right sound. You still need to adjust to your liking. Modern kick mics also produce more low end in the ranges that are difficult for a 57.
