Sorry that I gave no details about my voice, that was because its not for my voice its just for a studio microphone for any voice thrown at me and I happen to not have that much money. Saw it for 200 but I'm thinking im better off getting the Shure KSM27, Am I right?

The Rode mics are not that bad, but some people have problems with sibilance due to the brightness of these mics. I have heard that the NT1 is better than the NT1-A, though, so you could always check that one out too. My old drummer has one, and we both thought that it sounded great.

Any other mics around this price range (no higher than 300) that I should think about? I'm trying to build up a nice collection of mics here but im really only at the start. I've got 5 sm-57s a pg-58 (I know its bad) I'm pretty sure there is an sm-58 lying around somewhere I have a beta 52, and two MXL 603S condensers. As for other equipment, I'm running into 4 M-AUDIO Audio-buddy pres and a new presonus tube pre All running into a MOTU 828k mk II. Any suggestions?

I have rode nt1, nt1a and a pair of nt5s. i swear by them. it is true that they are bright. there may be a difference between the nt1 and nt1a, but not enough to prevent me using them as a pair. i recommend them highly on the basis of personal experience.

You could always check out the Studio Projects stuff. A lot of people seem to like them, and I think I am going to pick up a B1 or two pretty soon.

I used to have a Rode NT-1, and I really didn't like it at all. I'm after a more mellow tone (I love the sound of the Beatles Revolver album), and this mic is super-bright. Bright enough where I could swear that I could hear distortion on the high end at times. If bright is what you are after, this is a great mic for you. But if you want your stuff to sound mellow or fuzzy, this is probably not the mic for you.

There are lots of choices in this price range these days, people talk about the Studio Projects stuff, and the Marshall mics (positively). There are tube mic's for both in the price range that you are looking at, I think (?) - just do a search, I'm sure that you'll find a ton of stuff. I've never owned anything from either company. I got a AKG 2000 and liked that a lot better than the Rode. Then I got a Groove Tubes AM61, and liked that quite a bit more than the AKG.

Unrelated comment, wouldn't it be fun if everyone mapped out the progression of their gear? For example, I bought mic X, then traded it for mic Y. I think that something like that would be interesting...

The AT4033 is a good one for most purposes.
