Recording 24bit/96kHz via DIF-AT24 (R-Bus)

I'm just getting into outboard preamps connected digitally to my VS-2480. I've got a Focusrite 428 with their A/D card installed. It can send ditigal signals out of its ADAT lightpipe outputs which I then route to my DIF-AT. However, the ADAT spec only goes up to 48KHz. So when I set the 428 to say 96kHz, the 428 pairs up two of the ADAT channels (48kHz + 48kHz = 96kHz duh!) to deliver 96kHz. My question is, how do I recombine the two channels in my VS-2480 to achieve a single 96kHz track? Do I just route the two RUS inputs to the same track and it somehow miraculously gives me a 96k recording? I haven't tried it yet to see if it works, but maybe someone out there has tried it. Am I missing something here. I know I can do it via the two S/P DIF channels, but I'd like to be able to have all four channels of the 428 connected and digitally feeding my VS.
