SoundForgeXP How do I record from my soundcard?

I am feeding sound into my PC from my Soni Minidisc recorder. I am trying to record it (capture it) as it plays through my PC. I use SoundForgeXP. How do I do this?

You'll see what looks like transport controls at the top of the screen when you launch Soundforge. When you click the "record button a new window will pop up with another set of transport controls. Click on the record button of that and it'll start recording. If you're not getting an audio to the app, you need to go to your Windows mixer and make sure you have only LINE INPUT selected as the sound source.

I am having trouble selecting LINE INPUT as a sound source in my WINDOWS MIXER. In WinXP, how is this done? I've tried Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices but I cannot find it. It was so easy in Win98. Can you direct me?

There should be a little speaker icon in the lower right hand corner. Click on it. A mixer should appear. Click on OPTIONS and select PROPERTIES, then select RECORDING. Make sure that only LINE INPUT is checked.

There's no speaker icon in the system tray. In Win98 I had that. I don't have the speaker icom in XP. What do you recommend now?

Start Menu>>>>>>Settings>>>>>>Control Panel>>>>>>>Audio Devices (or) Audio HQ.

[EDIT] sorry, I didn't see your former post where you tried this.

Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Volume tab > Place volume icon in the taskbar

Then try Track Rack's suggestion.

Got there thank you.
Wav, Audio. Line in, Speaker ... all have the mute box unchecked.
So I think these settings are fine. Agree?
I've put in a different sound card. Problem remains.
I've tried using Total Recorder and SoundEdit96. Problem remains.
Should I try yet another sound card?

Mute? Your looking at the playback faders not input. The check box should read "SELECT" by the line in fader.
