do you like these lyrics who do they sound most like?
stand off in roads tapered down this night
trading off out think bids to never know that we polished this wild denial till it shone from inside a tiny chance writ "between the lines" the streched line comes again and it will take us down trip roped free ride onto the next state and as you draw your breath to start the countdown the made up things depleet too much to carry on waste your time in trying to contemplate and get lost in the haze of the things that you dont know where sketches taking hours scream "more light" so they're joined up, finished, freedom falls tonight! the streched line comes again and it will take us down trip roped free ride onto the next state and as you draw your breath to start the countdown the made up things depleet too much to carry on |

Yeah roger that. Pretty cryptic, but it's bloody hard to write lyrics I reckon.

dont they give you any kind of feelingor soul?
i reckon they're different but in a good way more evocative than descriptive. sometimes its better to throw things in the air than paint them on the wall.

Is this song about the rodeo? If it isn't, it should be.

It sort of reminds me of Ogre... but any sort of free-associative kinda stuff always makes me think of him.

They make me think of Iron Maiden or something like that. It's like something James Hetfield might write, no?
When I read them, I heard them being spoken rather than sang. I can hear a marching snare in there, too. Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah.... ooooooohhhhhhhhh ![]()

A little, shall we say, "ABSTRACT?" If you're just writting for yourself, then hey, that's great-mindless lyrics like that may mean something to you. My band, while writting for ourselves, also write to get our music across to the public (I.E. the people that BUY our music). I like to give the audience something they can relate to. Not something they are perplexed by-but hey, that's just me.
As far as the guy who said it reminded him of Maiden, Steve Harris writes GOOD lyrics, not anything like this tripe........................peace |

I like cryptic lyrics.
Here are a couple songs from the first PAVEMENT album: In The Mouth A Desert Can you treat it like an oil well When it’s underground, out of sight? And if the sight is just a whore sign Can it make enough sense to me? Pretend the table is a trust knot We’ll put our labels down, faith is down I’ll watch some yards of twine unravel And you’ll never get it back It’s what I want (it’s what I want) It’s what I want (twine comes down) It’s what I want (it’s what I want) Don’t you know, I could make you try Make you try [3x] I’ve been crowned the king of it, and it is all we have So wait to hear my words and they’re diamond sharp I can open it up and it’s up and down It’s what I want (it’s what I want) I see your bag like a little dog [? ](ball of twine) Don’t you know that it’s what I want (it’s what I want) I’ll see your bag and it makes you try Makes you try [3x] I’ve been down, the king of it, is all we have I’ve been down and I could wait to hear the words They’re diamond sharp today Here I was dressed for success But success it never comes And I’m the only one who laughs At your jokes when they are so bad And your jokes are always bad But they’re not as bad as this Come join us in a prayer We’ll be waiting waiting where Everything’s ending here And all the sterile striking it defends An empty dock you cast away And rain upon your forehead Where the mist’s for hire if it’s just too clear Let’s spend our last quarterstance randomly Go down to the outlet once again Painted portraits of minions & slaves Crotch mavens and one night plays Are they the only ones who laugh? At the jokes when they are so bad And the jokes they’re always bad But they’re not as bad as this Come join us in a prayer We’ll be waiting waiting where Everything’s ending here And all the spanish candles unsold Away have gone to this And a run-on piece of mount on Trembles, shivers, runs down the freeway I guess she spent her last quarter randomly I guess a guess is the best I’ll do Last time last time Was the best time |

Hearing cryptic lyrics in a good song lets me decide what I want them to mean. I can draw from things in my personal life, and make the song my own. Although it's not just the lyrics that make a song for me, otherwise you might as well write essays. It's the music and the production and the vocals (the sound & mood created)
