Anyone use Vox? AC30CCH ?

I was wondering how it sounds.

I have an AC30CC2 and its the sweet sounds of the 60s with my rics and gretschs. its a great sounding amp. clean and top boost. when i got it did have a bad preamp tube which caused a clicking sound but that was fixed under warranty. the amp has been perfect ever since.

Brian May from Queen used AC30s via a boost pedal. Not too many examples of the AC30 sound, but there's one, though perhaps not an ideal one, given that May's guitar/PU combination was unique, etc. I Understand the Beatles used them a lot.

I've played through an AC30 a couple of times - a soft but glassy sound (typivcally clean 'class A' springiness), but distorted tones alone (without any boost pedal) I don't know.

I own the AC30CCH head. MANY bands use the AC30 in recording although less use it live.

I have found that the AC30CCH is pretty picky with speakers, or at least I am picky with the speakers. I bought the head because I already owned a 2x12 can with a greenback and v30 in it. I thought I would be playing it thought the greenback but I didn't like it. I was looking to nail a great Beatles tone. THe V30 was better, but it lacked a little bite. I finally got a single 30W Weber alnico blue dog, and that was the stuff!! A great option intstead of the $700 for two celestion alnico blues.

This amp is very versatile tonewise, but it doesn't have channel swtiching. It has a beautiful clean, and an awesome distorion. The Distortion tone can vary greatly based on the Tone CUt control - very useful...

Perhaps other boardies could point you out some specific song the are good examples of the AC30....

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I have owned a Vox AC 30 and it was a quality amp but I traded it in on a Fender which is far more useful. As far as vintage tones go and the previous reply on "the Beatles' sound" What a lot of people don't realise is that many songs thought to have been recorded with an AC30 were in fact recorded using Selmer amps. I owned a Selmer Twin Selector Tone in 1963, they were a fabulous amp and outshone the Vox in that they were far more reliable and travelled well whereas the Vox of the time was prone to breaking down.
What the Jennings company who made Vox did really well tho' was market their product, they were way ahead of Selmer in their thinking and got top acts to endorse their product. But when groups like the stones and beatles etc went on stage, there was usually backup selmer amps waiting in the wings.
They unfortunately went out of production in the 70's. But if you want to get an insight into these brilliant vintage British amps look Selmer amps up on google.
Proof of their ruggedness came for me when mine flew off towards the front of the ranch wagon in a sudden stop and crash landed face down. I thought it would be totally stuffed, but as we were in another town for a gig I plugged it in and to my surprise it worked as if nothing had happened.
