Anyone have a Nice 335 or Les copy?

I know there are ones from the 70's. Does anyone have one, and how much did you pay and how do you like it?

I have an Epi Dot and a Les Paul Studio. Both from the 90's. Love 'em both.

No No No, I'm talking about Made in Japan copies, the ones that even use the open book headstock.

I've got an early '70's(1973, I believe) Ibanez Artist Model. Like a small scale 335. Beautiful, solid guitar. I paid like $300 for it in 1993.

One of my first guitars was a LP copy made by Seville (sp). El Cheapo Guitaro.

I have an Ibanez Artstar (NOT artcore) AS-120, which is a very sweet copy of a 335. Looks just like this one:

Maybe you're thinking of Austin?

There are lots of companies that make Les Paul copies. It might help if the original poster indiciated more specifically why he was asking. Are you looking at purchasing a specific guitar? If not, why are you only interested in copies made in Japan in the 1970's?

I recently picked up a Samick SAT 650 which is a 335 copy. Beautiful guitar with better fit and finish than most guitars in this price range by far.

Yamaha SA 2000

Oft overlooked, beautifully crafted guitar, better electronics (coil taps via pull switches) more tone flexibility and all the playability. Better than most 'real' 335s. I'd sooner have one of these than a Gibson. Paid $800, I think.

I have a Cort 335 fitted w/ EMG pickups. Can't find much information about it on the net, though. Plays great, has through the neck construction, sounds fine. Has some QC issues with things like binding. Some of the wiring is a little funky. Fun axe, though, and a killer for $250 used w/ HSC.

Memphis was another knockoff company 20 or so years ago. Really crappy LP copies, IIRC.

when I played that weren't there some issues of the strings hitting the frets when playing above high up on the neck?

I've got a "Palmer" 335 copy that ism a wild guess somewhere b/t 20-30 years old. Made in Japan. The name cracks me up. Its like they went for the most whitey name they could think of. Anywayz I picked it up for 250 and its awesome. I play it on stage in favor of an Am Std. strat.

much better than the current batch of crap they have at sam ash and musicians friend. some of those archtops are awful.

I have a Silvertone SLA330 which plays and sounds as good as any 335 I've ever played. A couple of friends of mine have Les Paul copies which imo are as good as the ones made by Gibson, one is made by Vantage (early 80s) and the other is a Source 10 (got no idea who made it or when). Aria made some nice copies of both in the 70s and 80s, I've played several of the Pro 2 models which rivaled Gibson for both tone and feel.

I have a 70's Univox Les Paul copy. It has a sunburst finish that reminds me of ketchup and mustard. It plays and sounds pretty good but it doesn't stay in tune. It is probably my most recorded guitar ever.

I bought a tokai (MIK) copy of a 335, a year and 1/2 ago. It has been the only guitar I have touched since. It is bone stock, and we put up against a new 335, and a late 90's studio model, and all agreed the tokai played as well and sounded better. I just ordered a MIK tokai 52 fender tele.

Just for reference- I own a 1963 jazzmaster, which was lonnie mack's, who gave it to SRV, who in turn passed it on to me. It is sweet, but can't stand up next to the tokai. I own a 1940 national steel, and a few other vintage guitars of this caliber.

With this said, the tokai is top dog in my house. Walter

Here is the tele You can buy them here. A good dealer.
