I have been plagued with a static-electricity-like sounding noise for the past... well as long as I can remember. The noise is only present from around 6pm until morning. I figured it must be a light or something, but the noise is still present even when all the lights in the house are off. So it must be something *outside* my house, which means that there's nothing that I can really do about it.

I can also sometimes hear the same kind of noise on my phoneline.

Is there anything I can do? Would one of those electricity filter type thingies (ie. Furman PL-Plus) help?

Sounds like you have a radio station close by. Maybe it's being blocked during the day by a higher power station. There might even be a "pirate" home radio station in your area that only cranks up at night.

I live out in the country but have a radio tower across the street. It feeds into my wired telephone so I have to use cordless. Screws up my TV too. Contacted owner and FCC but seems I can't do anything about it. For whatever reason, I haven't had a problem with recording so far.
