I was at the book store today and I picked up a book about building your own effects and such for music. Ring modulator...compressor...etc. Call me cheap, but I didn't buy it. I was wondering if anyone knows any websites that has plans and such for building your own effects.

Yeah, check out dobro.com - there's this article on a communication device you can put together with two paper cups and a bit of heavy duty thread. You attach the thread to the bottoms of the cups, pull it kinda tight (but not too tight, or it'll break!) and then one person puts their ear to their cup, and hears the other person saying quite clearly, both through the cup and from the other side of the room: "El Barto, you're a cheap sausage." Anyway, wouldn't you rather play and record music instead of tinkering with stoneage versions of what you can affordably buy at better quality?

I ask merely for information, you understand.

All that affordability and quality comes from people who like to tinkering, who knows you may invent a sound no one has. Incedently fishing line works very well with that listening device described, but I've found an empty water hose works just as well.
