VS880EX Effects Troubles..

Hahha its me agian .. im going to start a new thread on this .. i think it would just be easier... Maybe im wasting space.

Ive already asked this question on Vsplanet and i didnt get very far with it. Hook referred me to a bunch of different sources andi used one and it doesnt work so im goingto try here now.

Heres my issue. i undestand i have at my use two effects on these things. but my thing is i dont wanna use the same effects on my kick drums as i do my snares ... so ... I want to be able to select and tweak effects for my kick ... bounce it down to another vtrack and contnue this process with all my toehr drum kit tracks... make sence ... For instance.

Currently i have a compression limiter and a mic sim on my kick track. But i want a different Mic sim and different compression setting on my snare. and aslo i want ot be able to add different revebs at a later pont as well.

I am sure this is possible it has to be?

Hook referred me to the Roland Application guide and on page 96 of this book is what i wanna do ... "use v tracks to re-use the internal effects"

I followed these instructions and it didnt work. Im wondering if anyone in hasa good handle on this and can work me thru this ....

i have a feeling that i did something wrong as is the case most of the times but ..

If i am supposed to send an effect post fade to the track its getting sent to .. do i have to have "insert" feature turned off on the playback track (already recorded track. ???? and add it as an insert to the track it is getting bounced to ? gahh.. im confusing you arent i ??

anyone shed any light on this ....

Im confused ...

Make sure the effect is not turned on in another track.

The insert effect should be on the input or original track not the new track if you wish to print the effect.

Arrow

You can only use an effect as an insert or an aux send, not both.PRE/PST fade
settings have no effect on an effect assigned to an insert.

As a send effect you can use an effect for all sixteen channels(eight input-eight track). As an insert you can only use an effect on one or two channels.

This is one of those things that's hard to explain, but I could show you in five minutes if I was right there.

Typically, when an effect is not working as assigned it's assigned somewhere else, say an input track that you're not using.

There are crude block type diagrams in the window that show effects assignments.Maybe by finding this you can solve your problem.

I'm glad somebody figured that crap out. I just use the 6 track mode with maybe one effect on each of 4 tracks. After that, maybe tweak the EQ, then send it to the computer on a beam of light. That's what I don't like about a lot of Roland's stuff. Push this, turn this, tweak this, stand on your head, push this and this, now fart, now push this, etc, etc, etc.... I actually paid $3000 for the big VS at the time but it was so depressing when I started reading the manual, I took it back and bought the 880EX. It's so much easier to do all the bouncing or tweaking in the computer. But I still like the VS's. I guess I lack the patience.

I found the 880 EX a pain in the ass to work with. By the time I got the thing set up and ready to go, half of my available energy was spent. My new machine is a lot more intuitive, and when I get the monitor and mouse for it, it will really be easy to use.

hmmm. man i dunno. not trying to sound like a dick. but i heard so much shit about the owners manual and shit that it intimidated me to even look at it in some respects. but i dunno. i sat with it away from the machine itself and familiased myself with some of the stuff and it made more sence when i went ot the machine to start implementing some of the stuff i had read. it was not anywheres near as bad as people were making it out to be.

And shit .. if everyone says the 880EX is a pain in the dick i cant wait to get my hands on some newer models.

As far as transferring it to the comp i am going to be upgrading my shit in a little bit and hopefully going to get Neundo .... im not sure if Cool Edit is what i need.

But as for the 880EX. im happy wiht it so far .. mind you its only been three weeks.

another thing .. does anyone make there own notes to keep next to em in the quick reference guide ??? I find that has made a HUGE difference in my performance with my VS.

Oh, it's a good machine. There were too many things to set up to get the sound I wanted, so when I finally did, it sucked all of the fun out of playing. If I had someone to just handle the knobs while I played, I'd have been fine.

The newer machines have built upon a lot of the successes of the earlier ones, and also corrected a few of the weaknesses.

The 880 EX has one thing over my 2000CD, though: Dedicated pan pots.

Lightbulb

It was a pain in the ass to learn how to use the VS for me,but I wasn't a computer user and the jargon was all new to me.The manual blows.
But once I figured it out it was great little machine.

I moved on to a DAW because I wanted more, and as everyone knows, more is better.

I think the thing is to get a set way of using the VS and for the most part stick with it.There are better things out there, but in the end it's what you are recording that's most important, rather than what you are recording on.
