Building 1/4" cables.. Where to buy and what to buy

Hey guys
I've got a soldering iron and solder.. Now I need the wires and connectors!
Where should I purchase these from, and is there anything else I need?

I need to make (2) 10' 1/4" to hook up ROkit5's to Firepod..
I'll also need to make cables for patchbays eventually..
Same wire, right?

Thanks!
Scott

I'd suggest Neutrik ends and cable from Mogami, Belden, or Canare. TRS connecters and 2-conductor cable for balanced cables, TS connectors and 1-conductor cable for unbalanced.

You can get them from www.markertek.com

Adam's suggestion is right on.

I usually get mogami cable from www.redco.com
(Mention that you saw their ad in Tape Op Mag and they'll give you a small percentage off. about enough to cover shipping)

and my gold plated Neutrik connectors from www.fullcompass.com
Though Sweetwater has free shipping now. Might be worth checking into.

Seems to be a good solution to keep cost down.
Good luck

Oh, and how difficult is building snake cable?
I need to run 8 XLR about 10 or 15' to the live area and I'd rather have one big snake cable.. or should I just run 8 individual XLR cables and tie them together with a few straps?

Well, not exactly. Balanced cables use what look like stereo plugs, but it is not a stereo signal.

That's the easiest way, and probably all you need for now anyway.

Eek, i dont know much about this stuff.

Maybe you guys can help me with which cables i need to make. The construction itself I know i can handle

I need to connect Rokit 5's to my firepod.. The firepod has 1/4" inputs for monitor/main mix in's.. the rokit's have a balanced 1/4" plug and a XLR plug.

I know XLR are a little better because they have a ground.. would it be benificial for me to make a XLR to 1/4" cable, or should I just keep the 1/4" all the way through?

I'm also most likely going to be buying a patchbay.. would I be using the same ends/wire for the patch cables?
Thanks!
Scott

ehm.. I guess I'm anwsering alot of my own questions with this http://www.tweakheadz.com/all_about_cables.htm
I'd still like a little input, though!. I have a problem with reading retension :-\
