Mackie Onyx 800r and A/D question

i have a digi 002 and the 4 pres built arent enough for me at the moment....im looking into getting the Mackie Onyx 800r...i read a review for it and it said

"This is a special interface, have all you needed to expand your audio interface. I have got Digi 002 and I note inmediately the diference beetween A/D convertors, I connect this to ADAT input in Digi002, simply they are excelents. I have a High definition of audio with Onyx 800R."

can someone explain the concept of A/D convertors (im assuming analog/digital?)..but what does it mean exactly.....

oh yea, and any thoughts on the Mackie Onyx 800r

4-Man Takedown has a little shameless behaviour in the past
yes, it's analog to digital. All sound you record with a mic will start analog and you need it to be digital to be read by a computer. The mackie just takes the mic signal, makes it digital and then sends it to the digi02 by ADAT most likely, which in turn sends it to your computer to be recorded to pro-tools. Apparently this person thinks the mackie has better conversion than the digi02, which won't affect the mackie's siganl (arguably) because the mackie sends a digital signal already.

I bet it would be a fine choice to have more tracks for the digi02.
