FMR really nice compressor...

I am thinking of buying a FMR really nice compressor. First of all, id appreciate any comments on whether i should buy one or not. I also have a question if i were to get this compressor or even any other compressor. I own a FIREPOD and i use Cubase LE. I know i can plug the compressor into the back of my FIREPOD and record while using it, but would i be able to plug a compressor into my FIREPOD and then use it with the program sort of like a vst plug-in? (using it on numerous tracks after the recording were done).

no one here is going to say anything bad about the RNC, unless maybe comparing it to a compressor costing thousands more. The only fault with it ive heard of is that it isnt the greatest for bass.

If understand...

If I understand you correctly you want to use the compressor as a hardware compressor on many channels at once in cubase. That is not the way hardware stuff works, but I understand your thoughts because I once thought the same thing.

In many ways hardware effects are less superior than software effects because you can only use one at a time. The only way to use it is by giving it an input analog signal and then recording/monitoring that signal back to the computer.

For all this to work, the interface (FIREPOD) has to have more than one output/input (which it certainly has).

The only way to use it on numerous tracks is by using it on one track, then getting a good setting, recording that output to a new channel or over the old one and then rewiring the tracks so use the compressor on another one.

good luck

The FIREPOD features ¼” TRS balanced Send and Return jacks on Channels 1 and 2. These jacks are
labeled as Preamp Output (SEND) and Line Input (Return). These connectors allow the use of external
processors such as reverbs, de-essers, limiters, EQ’s, etc. Simply connect the Preamp Output jack, balanced
or unbalanced to the input of the external processor. Then connect the FirePod’s Line Input jack to the output
of the external processor. The signal is now routed out of the FIREPOD, into the external processor, then back
into the FIREPOD. The final, processed signal will be available to record now. The Line Input can also be used
as a standard line level input for devices that do not require preamplification (such as a CD player, drum
machine, sampler and etc.).
NOTE: The line inputs on channels 1 and 2 take precedence over the combo mic/Instrument inputs
on the front of the unit. If a cable is plugged into channel one line input on the rear of the
FIREPOD, then the mic/instrument input on channel one will be inactive until the cable is removed
from line input 1.
thats straight from the manual bud it can be done... YOu would probably do something like this is you wanted compression with the rnc to tape(hard drive)

To make sure that's clear:

The send and recieve on the firepod will allow you to RECORD with the RNC (or any other outboard gear) but you won't be able to use it like a plugin.

Take care,
Chris

You will be able to use it like a plugin if you get Cubase SX. SX allows for outboard gear to be set on a send and receive chain (aux style) and automatically delay compensates.

I finally bought one myself, mainly from what I've read here and lots of other places.

It's lived up to the hype for sure.

Are you looking for a mastering limiter?

Keep in mind that you can't use it on as many channels as you want, the RNC still only has controls for one channel at a time, but with SX, you can sedn signals out and back with delay compensation. Personally, if you need compression for multiple channels, look into the UAD 1 card. Personally, I like the comps on the UAD better than the RNC.
