I've Roland EXR3 Keyboard and ANVIL Software in my computer. When I tried recording all the instruments record to one single track. I want to know how to create multiple tracks and have different instruments gets recorded in different tracks. For wx., when I play keyboard, I want the accompanying music to go onto track2 and my base music which I'm playing into track1. I tried different combinations but wasn't successful in getting this properly. Can someone tell me how to do this? Also, does any one know where to Patch file for EXR3 Keyboard. I called Roland and they don't have one.

Did you actually read the articles to which I provided links?

Here they are again ---- part one and part two. When text is in blue on a BBS it is a link to another site and is provided (usually) because it sheds additional light on the topic at hand.

And Google is your friend. Here's what I found --- LINK --- on Roland's web site. Not sure exactly what you mean by 'patch file' - new sounds, maybe? If so, and you're looking for traditional Indian instruments you may be disappointed - the sounds in the keyboard you currently have are oriented toward modern western pop. There are some sample sets out there - here is a link to one example and here is another but neither of these is playable on your current keyboard.

I read the article and have understood the basics of MIDI. This is what I did. I first played my song first in one track and recorded them. After that I created another track as Rhythm track and played accompanied music. Also, I played indian instruments through another software and recorded that with input source as my sound card. But after recording the sound comes very low. All this I did with ANVIL.

Why does the sound come so low (actually very low) when recording through ANVIL with sound card as Input? Is there any settings I've do or any other software/hardware I've to plug in to record Audio?

Please let me know.

I neglected to ask what sound card you are using and I now assume it's the stock one that came with your computer. That's fine for now, but it will be the first link in your system you will need to change --- and probably sooner rather than later.

One good thing about working with digital signals is lack of background noise. That means a program like Audacity can be used to amplify the low signals without doing much damage. It's freeware and I use it all the time.

I was able to achieve quiet a few things this weekend. I was able to record one track for my keyboard and one track for my audio. After doing this, now I've one track with MIDI and another track with .WAV. Can you tell me how to create a .WAV or .MP3 File from this. Obviously, we cannot export to MIDI as this song has one track as MIDI and one track as .WAV or AUDIO. I'm using ANVIL Studio.

If Anvil Studio has a 'render to audio', 'export to WAV' or some similarly named function, use that.

That will give you a WAV file that mixes both the audio track and the midi track into a single stereo WAV.

If you need to make an MP3 out of the resulting WAV file, follow the link above back to the Audacity site and download the LAME encoder. For copyright reasons that can't be included with the Audacity download, but they make it very easy for you to find on their web site --- and easy to permanently install as part of the Audacity program so the next time you need to make an MP3 it will be right there waiting.
