mixing a whammy pedal solo...
so the guitarist in my band insisted on putting a solo in one of our songs featuring the digitech whammy pedal...set 2 octaves up. if that wasn't enough, he's playing rather high on the fret board. now, the solo is cool, fits the songs, blah blah, so we don't want to just record it an octave lower, change the notes, key, etc. I need some suggestions on getting this thing not so ear peircing, and yet still be heard. i've tried multiband compressors, regular compressors, EQs, and it just won't stand out the right way, or the compression has unfavorable results. ANY help would be great. thanks!

Sorry, only just found this post.
I did a high screamy solo for my last tune and found that BBE Sonic Maximiser when the low/contour knob is turned up really sweetens up an otherwise harsh sounding lead. Slash used it to great effect on Sweet Child 'O Mine. I hope this helps ![]()

Use a low pass EQ and cut off everything above about 4k more or less. Robert Fripp uses those things all the time and thats how I solved the problem mixing King Crimson's stuff. You will still hear the high notes but your ears will not bleed.
