I use Sony MDR-V150s that sell for $20 at Wal-Mart. They are adequate for tracking and roughing in a mix.

do a search for "more me" headphones from Harvey Gerst starting at 20 bucks and going to 30 for the nicer ones they are the nicest i have used for tracking and they will not break easy so you can really work with them.

AKG K240 or Sony MDR 7506. Both go for about $100 US. I suppose that's not cheap and perhaps not affordable for some folks. They are, IMHO, a "bang for the buck" when you consider the cost of other recording gear and the importance of having good headphones for tracking.
