Bought a used AT4033... little help please

I bought a Audio Technica AT4033a today.... cheap but nothing else included.
What is the difference between the AT4033a and the AT4033CL?

Should I buy a cheapy $18 shock mount off Flea Bay or go for the Audio Technica AT8449 for $100?
Could and should I use the Audio-Technica shock mount on my AT2020?

Where do you guys usually buy stands and cables on line?
Any suggestions on those would be appreciated.

I'm so new I don't even know the right questions to ask.
Any help would be great.
I live in a rural town in Utah even the closest Walmart is an hour away, so online shopping is about all I have.

Thanks
Stan

Hmmm. I woud say that you just bought yourself a microphone.

Microphones are fun.

You point them at things that make sounds.

I like grape soda.

Do you like grape soda?

Is it Grape Nehi?

Ruth and Sherlene (my two wives) love that stuff.

4033 is a good mic! Not an LDC, though. Very smooth sounding. Good for vocals. I have a friend in a country band that gets great results on lead vocs. You will need a decent preamp.

I'm not sure a standard shock mount will work with it. Can you post a pic of the one you saw on eBay? Also, you'll need phantom power for it to work (in case you didn't know),

Stands and cables can be had on eBay or musiciansfriend.com or the like...

Enjoy!

I'm using Cubase LE, Firepod, Audio Technica AT2020.

Thought the AT4033 would do well with my acoustic guitar, while I whine into the At2020.

Huh! I would think the other way around would work better. You sing into the 4033, while your guitar whines into the 2020.

I like the 4033.
Great general purpose condenser. Kind of the "57 of condensers." works every time you put it up.

I like it for electric guitar, and bass. Bass is GREAT through that mic. A growly rock bass through that thing is really REALLY good.

They have an embossed diaphragm, similar to the Shure KSM-32.

Makes them really good for bass, or in a kick mic tunnel.

Just piling on. The 4033 is one of my fav acoustic guitar mics and as stated, is sort of like the 57 of condensors. It works on just about anything you point it at. As far as the A vs CL model, they're the same mic inside.

I have a 4040. Is that like a 33 but with roll-off and attenuator or is there something more that's different.

One thing I like about the 4040 is it sounds a kinda old-timey. To my ear its got a nice mid-range honk.

The 4033 has both pad and roll off. The 4033 is mid sized diaphram (about 5/8") and the 4040 is large (1").

I have a 4033 and a 4040... I have to say that I love them both.

When I have an acoustic player that sings in the booth, I usually first try the 4033 on the acoustic and the 4040 on the vocs and it almost always beats my other combos (although I don't have many $$ mics. )

I also like the 4033 for acoustic and vocals. I wouldn't say that it is great on acoustic guitars, but it's ok! The Peluso CEMC6 blows the AT4033 away on acoustic guitar, which is in the same price range. The AT4033 has a twangy sound, although subtle, on guitar. I have had great success with the AT4033 on vocals, and for a mic in that price range, it is very good!
