What, no one's gonna say Geddy Lee?
BTW I'm a Rush fan, but it took a long time to listen past Geddy's voice.

anyone who thinks bob dylan is a "terrible" singer hasn't heard nashville skyline. it doesn't sound like "bob dylan." the "bob dylan" you are all familiar with is a character created by bob dylan. the fact remains that you might not like that character's voice, but that voice is striking, unmistakable and forces you to listen to what is being said. i believe it was a calculated move. think of how many assholes with guitars were playing folk songs back then...bob dylan just had something special to say, and he needed a way to get people to listen.

Dave Mustaine
Kills me. Megadeth could have been such a kick ass band if they had a real singer. Not only that, the lyrics were the dumbest thing imaginable. Don't believe me? Take a listen to "Sweating Bullets" or "Psychotron" - yeah, that's right, I said Psychotron. |

I agree. Axl was terrible. And he had an ego to go with that shitty voice. |

Tamme Down - Faster Pussycat.
Guy couldn't sing in tune on his own stuff but then they went out and recorded Carley Simon's "Your So Vain." So horrible it's funny but not funny enough to be good. |

Leslie West, I use to love it when I heard the beautifull voice of Felix Pappalardi in a classic mountian song, when I suddently turned naucius from the horrible sound this Leslie caughed up.

Well, if we're gonna venture outside the realm of rock 'n' roll, then the worst singer without a doubt was Florence Foster Jenkins. I once digitized one of her records for a friend, and at first I thought someone was torturing a cat!

I disagree about Dylan. His voice certainly isn't the sweetest sound in the world. Nonetheless, he has good pitch and consistent (albeit debateably good) tone.
This conversation seems to be more about which vocalist's style everyone favors least. To answer that: the guy from Dashboard Confessional

I heard an old ub40 song in my car the other week, and coulndnt help but make a mental note of how freekin ungodly awful that sound was. Way over compressed and buried with loads of reverb. I think if he practiced for that record at all, then then the current status of "horrible" is/was an improvment. Very sad Indeed
.....But then again, they cant all be siniging virtuoso's..like say Britney Spears or perhaps Dave Grohl live!) ![]()

Bob Dylan is one of the greatest singers of our time. He has even won various awards (specifically for singing) to further back that up.
His voice is rough and edgy, Woody Guthrie folk like, but that's the "gravel in your gut" "hard road travelled" spirit of America coming out in him. He has Robert Johnson and Hand Williams Sr. rolled into one. If I were to choose a worst : Any "white trash" "I feel sorry for my self" bands.... for example, Nickleback, Creed, Theroy of a Dead man, etc. |

korns singer is also quite unique. as far as worst, im going with axl rose, and ashley simpson probably. ja-rule, busta rhymes, and alot of rappers that try to sing, and the guy from hoobastank too. brandon boyd, the lead singer of incubus is similar...but he can actually sing great. it depends on your deffinition of singing. a previous poster said geddy lee. i disagree, his style was quite unique and was one of the reasons rush was so popular. thats like me saying the singer of led zepplin sucks just because i dont like his voice (because i dont)...even though his voice is famous world wide. |

i can't believe nobody has mentioned Billy Corgan, since he's the worst singer EVER.

A band I was in a few years ago recorded with Terry Brown who produced a bunch of Rush albums. We asked him about recording Geddy Lee's voice, assuming he'd have some good stories. He didn't. He said Geddy was the consumate pro who was pretty much spot on with every take. I was hoping for something about them substituting a screeching cat for a song or two and nobody noticing... but alas, no luck.
