Tascam 428 declining
I do not see this product offered very much anymore...wonder how long it will be until support for it will be taken away by Big Tascam who cares very little about consumers needs?

I'm fairly sure in my assumption that the US-428 went out of production some time ago, and any new ones in the stores are on a use-til-gone basis.
I had a wild idea about 'puter recording, and got the US-428,... about 4 years ago,... and I hated it! It was always hanging up the computer, and I couldn't get a decent sounding recording out of it, no matter how I tried. I assumed at the time that it doesn't play well with the USB keyboard and mouse,... as well as a host of other problems. If I could have made a decent sounding track with it, I might have reconsidered. I tinkered around with it for about a week, but no luck,... so back to the store it went!! (GC) Got a full refund on it and put the money on the Tascam 424mkIII Portastudio, a cassette 4-track,... and I was much happier in the end. Aaaaggghhh!! The US-428!!!

Declining?!?!?
DEAD I think is a better term. They're not even sold anymore.......and support is only for WIN98 stuff. I bought one on eBay last month.....I like it well enough. It functions.

[QUOTE=thane1200]Declining?!?!?
DEAD I think is a better term. They're not even sold anymore.......and support is only for WIN98 stuff. Hay.......I am using the blue bastard with XP SP2 and the darn thing works quite will.........but I don't use the physical part of it.....just as a connection to the computer. Then I go to Cubase SX to turn things up and down etc. Here is a song or two I made with True-Eurt of this forum using the Tascam 428. It mixed out pretty well. But some time I want to get something like Motu..with firewird. But for now I fight with the Blue Bastard and try to get my 500 bucks out of it. Which I paied for it many years ago. Here is the tune I recorded on it a month or so back. http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/?aid=4680/singles Choctaw |

Hi all,
I agree. I use the old 428 with Cubase SX 2.2.35 (under Win XP SP2) without a problem. But....all things must pass. Ciao. Beppe |

What to replace the 428 with??????????????
[QUOTE=bepcec]Hi all,
I agree. I use the old 428 with Cubase SX 2.2.35 (under Win XP SP2) without a problem. But....all things must pass. Hay.....I too use the 428 without much discord. I am wondering what you will buy to replace it. I have disliked Tascam support and manuals since the beginning. I just had to learn it alone ...trial & mostly error. They have ungraded their new controlers too firewire and moving faders along with the FW-1804 see it here http://www.tascam.com/Products/fw1804.html the 1804 is a rackmount not having faders etc, just buttons and knobs to turn which allows use of the software along. I like that idea. Also Moto 828 is a nice thought. If we just are forgetting about Tascam...Yamaha now owns Steinburg who makes Cubase...this might have something really compatable coming our way. What do you think on this bepcec? Choctaw |

The US-428 was my first interface, though I eventually sold it to a friend when I bought the Digi 002.
I liked it and I didn't have any problems with it. The non-moving faders were a bit of a pain but worth the ability to put down the mouse and LISTEN. I really like how the EQ section fit Cubase perfectly. Twaeking EQ in Cubase with the 428 was easier than using the 002. The sound was OK... but I think that motionless faders on control surfaces don't sell well these days. Moving fader technology has come down in price A LOT and its way more useable. I/O is also much cheaper these days and the limited bandwidth of USB is getting to be a strictly budget format. While I think the 428 still fills a good niche as the budget inteface with control functions.... yeah, its life span is over as a new product. It used to be the top of the pile, now its the bottom and that's just how things go. Take care, Chris |
