i would try some kind of starter kit, especially if you are inexperienced with tubes. most need high (or lethal) voltages to operate properly.
your best bet would be some kind of tube preamp kit.. ie.

they're all pretty affordable and paia makes stuff easy to do, esp for beginners

I'm also really interested in this. I've been looking for a little while and have yet to find anything worth reporting, but I did look at books on Amazon.com and found a couple that might possibly have some info. If I knew how it all worked, I would totally post and let you know. Instead, I'll give you links to books on amazon so you can see what I plan on buying.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

A friend and I tried to order this, but we got it from the "used & new" section, and the store we bought it from turned out not to have it, so be careful with that. It seemed like this was easier to understand than the companion book to it, which is here:

If you're looking to build anything outside of a volume control and input/output jacks on your amp, I think this book might have good stuff in it.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=UTF8&v=glance

I plan on buying the first and the third book.
I also found this website:

Power Amplifier Fundamental

It seems pretty dense; I just haven't had the time/mental energy to sit down and hash it out. If you found any of this helpful, let me know; I'll know what will help me.
