Event TR8's

Ok... i just recently found a great deal on a pair of event tr8 monitors... i was originally gonna get some BX8s, but this is a great deal... so i was hoping to get some of your thoughts about which is the better sounding monitors, regardless of price... also, whats the bass like on the TR8s? i do rap music so bass is important, which is why i was going to get the BX8s... your thoughts?

Get the TR8's, the BX8's don't compare, so I hear. I've never used neither, so my input is pretty much pointless, but by judging from reviews and peers on this board and rapmusic.com I'd go with the TR8's.

Sorry if this doesn't help much. :-/

input appreciated... i noticed though that the BX8's have 130W and the TR8's only have 100W... will 30W make any difference?

I've got TR6s. They have plenty of power and are brutally honest. I'd recommend the TR8s, and don't worry about the 30W.

The 30watts won't make a bit of difference. I own the 20/20bas V2's which are the older wiser cousin of the tr8's(same woofer I belive) and they sound great. I also owned m-audios though they were the bx5's not 8's but man the tweet on thost things sucked hard. Get the Events, they're a solid company that makes solid equipment that sounds good, I seriosly doubt you'll be disappointed

Either way your getting alot for $300, imo.
Either way you'll have to learn them. Seems you've targeted on a couple.
Why not your own "shootout" at home, can you swing this?

BX8 vs TR8...by Diffusion
Test Method:
Music- HipRap
Enviroment: HR studio
Playback test:
Friends, car, home stereos...free college radio play! Internet PC, IPOD..

The "their just tools" analogy; Its very subjective to what kind of handle the screwdriver has that we prefer..which only we can answer ourselves.
sound is the same, soooo subjective to each of us.

What isn't so subjective is Price and Quality.
Price: How much money do you have?
If the BX8 and TR8 are similar..go with the cheapest!
Quality/Build: Do the tweeters or the cones blow out frequently? Does it have switches or connectors you need or want.

One thing i'm feeling clear & confident about...get in the studio and listen, listen, listen...read,read,read..and this is all free! thats the coolest part.

To jump on what coolcat said one of his criteria was whether the tweets held up. Well its a known fact that the bx's from m-audio have had many tweet problems ranging from brittle and harsh which mine were to just flat out blowing. I think they corrected this with the bxa models. But as coolcat also said its all subjective, I think the facts point to the Event being better overall but he's right you'll need to learn em either way so its really all up to you.

Be careful dissing M-Audio around here because a bunch of jackasses will jump up braying about how fucking great it is.

I have the Event Trias and have been using them for 6 years now with zero problems.

Yeah, it ain't a pair of Mackies and a 1000w subwoofer, but it was $500 compared to about what-- $2750 or so for the Mackies.

Holy Shit!!!! Someone else w/ Event Trias!!!

I've got the Event's (like C7Sus), and really like them. They are essentially PS-5's w/ a subwoofer and triamped. (now out of production... but cheap on eBay)

I have blown tweeters 3 times, each my own fault . (Opened up w/ a hot mic....)

Each time, Josh at Event answered the phone in 3 rings, and got my new tweeter out that day. $29.95. Can't beat that....

I find them to be very revealing speakers.... I have no experience w/ the M-Audios.... (but my M-Audio 88 key MIDI controller feels cheap.... plasticy...)

Braaaaaaay! No experience with the BX8s, but the BX5+sub combo is one heckuva low-cost monitoring solution.

Snort,
J.

I've got both the Tria's and TR8's.. and I love both. Whoever said the TR8's are brutally honest was totally right. They really open your eyes to how crappy something might sound. If you can get your music sounding good on those, they'll sound great anywhere else.

Cool.... How would you compare the two?? The reason I ask is that TR-8's, 20/20's, etc. have really come down in price, and I was wondering how the Tria's hold up against something w/ an 8" driver.

Can you give me an idea of how the two sets compare? I have never used monitors w/ 8" cones, so I am curious where the Tria's fit in.....

Thanks!!

Well the Tria comes with the Bass box so I mean as far as the Bass response is concerned, you actually get more bass out of the Tria's. the only thing is that the Tria's aren't as "honest" as the TR8's in my opinion. So I basically use the TR8's as my main go to monitors when mixing, and I use the Tria's to go back and forth to for a second opinion.
