Question NEW Tannoy Reveal Passives vs. the OLD Reveals?

Hello,

I have done a search on this topic and found plenty of info that I've been reading for the last hour, but my question didn't get answered, so here I am.

I can get the newer-style Tannoy Reveal passives seen here or the older style seen here for the same price. The older style would be used, the new would be new out of the box.

Generally I would get the new ones, but I thought I read somewhere that the newer ones aren't as good. But now that I think about it, it might have been in an Ebay auction for the older style...

Also, assuming you have a good power amp, is there a difference in actual speaker performance between the actives and passives?

Thanks!

I was going to say go for the new ones. But upon closer inspection, I noticed the new ones are $199 each(at sweetwater). The old style are $320 for the pair at zzounds.com.

I've owned and been using the older Tannoy Reveal's as ref along with a pair of Proto J's and E-20-20's. The older Reveals provide less ear fatigue then the newer models providing a more flatter response. The newer Reveals yield more hype in the mids and a seemingly 3-4 db increase in freqy's below 65hz (bottom),however side-by-side taste tests (at Manny's Music in NYC) show that the older model gives a better interpretation for proper judging of one's material.

Did you actually do the A/B? I appreciate the details; I'm having a hard time understanding which one you liked better from your comments. I suppose it isn't that simple.
