Building a drum room...

Hey guys,
I'm only 15 years old, but my parents let me own the basement, and I have been gradually building a small studio down there where I record my band and help out other local young bands with little money by recording them for a VERY low cost. I have some pretty nice equipment that gets me what I want for the most part. I have a lot of space down there, but record in a specific way where what I really need it a good sounding area to record drums in. I am deciding to build a drum room and fealt that the first step would be to raise the floor at least a little bit from the cement floor. I have two quesions though:

1. Is raising the floor important (pretty sure it is).

2. How should I do this being a complete newbie with studio acoustics?

I am completely new to building studios so be nice...? If you can

Strictly speaking, for recording, no. Building a floating floor helps with isolation, but arguably hurts acoustics since that will force your overhead mics closer to the ceiling. If you don't need the isolation, skip it. If you do need isolation, floating a floor involves more than raising it.

try to keep it live if possible. There is nothing worse that an entire room covered in eggcrate foam. Try making some GOBOS (search them on the site) to give some flexibility to the room.
