New Tune, Little Boy Dreams

Wrote this while I was in the hospital with my wife for the birth of our first child. The little guy was in my arms and i could see he was in REM sleep and got to thinking "what are you dreaming about?"

Finally got a chance to record it (albeit quickly, given the newborn at home!), and figured i'd post it here and see what y'all thought.

This is also the first tune i've posted here with vocals--not totally happy with em (again, quick takes!), but they'll suffice.

Alright, I'm turning it on and writing anything that comes to mind as it plays...

Very happy sounding... nice guitar tone... vocals seem a bit too into the mix, hard to hear the lyrics... here comes that guitar again - just puts you in a good mood!... yeah it's kind of relaxing too... yeah espcially can't hear the lyrics as much when you're singing with the guitar - like the idea though for the last verse so maybe you could bring the vocals up a bit or work some EQ magic on the song. The midrange does sound a bit high too. Anyway, overall a nice tune to listen to, very happy.

By the way, I like your singing &

Congrats on the kid!

thanks! i have to admit that i tend to bury my vocals somewhat--that's prolly why i shouldn't mix my own stuff. i've never considered myself a vocalist even though there have been a few folks that seem to think otherwise--your words really are an encouragement! when i get some time i'll do a repass on the mix and bring the vocals out a little more. this really was the first mix. and my craptastic room plays into the mids a good bit.

the little countryish lead riff was the first thing that popped into my head, aside from the lyrics, that is. i think it's what makes the song, honestly. would you believe that's a DI'd telecaster?

cheers, and thanks!

Sounds good, nice and clear.

Vocals definitly need turned up.

The bass line is so simple, yet so entertaining at the same time. It just stuck out to me.

I got no other comments, sorry

Not much to criticise here. That guitar line is superb. Nice feel and mix to the song. Vocals can probably come up but I don't know if it's a volume thing or a clarity thing, but it's very nice besides that.

thanks presto and rami! much appreciated!

the bassline is definitely ultra-simple.....but it's a 3-chord country song, and it's one of those "serving the song with the part" things. as Keith Urban is fond of saying, "sometimes you just want a cheeseburger".

the vocals definitely could come up--i tend to bury my vocals b/c i don't like the sound of my voice. trust me, it's not a clarity issue--if i'd bump up the fader, they'd be loud and clear.

cheers,
wade
