This is a nice track and overall very competently done. That said, things that struck me you might want to think about (let's say it's better than anything I can do so these are not criticisms, and feel free to ignore anything):

- The drum track sounds very canned, it's a rather small sound and very repetitive
- There are times when the rhythm playing doesn't quite gel - for example as it builds around (very approximately) 0.45 - 0.55 things trip over each other a bit - I think I was sensitive to this as the piano chords beforehand didn't quite seem to fit groove wise.
- Overall the sample sounds were not terribly convincing - you sy this is a rougn mix so that may be the reason.

Anyway, I don't want this to sound like a downer, it's a very listenable piece of music - nice job

Thanks for feedback. I agree..the drums sound a bit canned. I'm a drummer who has to rely on loops since I live in a condo. I thought about sending the track to that McKracken guy who records drum tracks on the cheap.

I agree, it is a very nice tune. Lots of different sounds, and they seem to gel pretty well. Have you messed with using eq on the drums yet? Sometimes I can liven my samples up a bit using eq, or some reverb. Maybe even compress them a bit to make them seem more live. Just some thoughts. Everything sounds good, and should make a great tune when your done.

I used slight compression on the drum loops...but avoided EQ.

I'm listening as I write

My initial impression is very positive

The drums while thin, felt Okay

Loved the basic tune carried by the piano

The balance felt warm

Nice stereo spred and spaciousness

Felt like a sound track for a video shot in an airplane overriding the a landscape

Excellent for a rough mix

I like it...

First off, nothing stopping you from getting some V-drums. They can be a great thing for an apartment/condo-bound drummer. I'm actually selling my acoustic kit, since they record so well.

That said, I think your use of loops is tasty here; It's a sweet groove. The song has delicacy and warmth. The arrangement has dimension, but that dimension is diminished by some of the mix/mastering choices. Overall, it lacks some punch that I think it could and should have. Easily remedied though, really. VERY cool material. I like the slight sense of forbidding intermingled with the warmth of the pads and guitars.

I like the v-drums ..but I will save my money and purchase a new DW custom kit when I get a house. It's something I've always dreamed of doing (first choice use to be Ludwig...but they are now steps below a DW in my opinion).
