Its free! Can I use this stuff?
Hey guys my father has a huge roll of stuff that says,
"Owens Corning Duct Type 75"....... Its faced with foil on one side and it about an inch thick. Can I use this stuff for wall absorber panels? WIll it be efective? He gave me the roll for free! Thanks for any help! -Blaze

If it's a roll, I'd presume it was the wrap. Yeah, you can use it for panels. Face the foil towards the wall. You won't get much bass absorption from those panels though.

Blaze,
Msharlarious is correct - it is a duct wrap - it doesn't have a whole lot of value for bass. Rod |

Actually by absorbind nearly all of the highs you will be left with just about nothing but bass.

Thane,
it is the "SoftR" Type 75 roll. So from what I get is that the stuff is ok for use on high/mid but not for Bass traping? Is that correct? I am trying to figure out my bass traping because of the shape and size of my room....... Thanks -Blaze

Use it as is if you like BOXY sounding space - that thin will absorb too unevenly to help the acoustics in your room. If you have more time than money, you might try playing with a small piece of the stuff and see if you can remove the backing without screwing up the insulation - if so, do that to ALL the stuff and put 3 or 4 layers of it (without backing) into a frame (no back on the frame either) so you'll have 4" thick absorbent - place it across any available corners in your room (including wall/ceiling ones) and it will help your room a LOT.
If you can wrap the pieces together as one "christmas package" using a fairly open weave cloth, even better. IF you just use the thin stuff as is, you can't even space it off the wall for better low freq absorption, because the backing will interfere... Steve
