Door suggestions

I have almost completed my studio/jam room. I need some suggestions on what to do with the door, something that might deaden the sound to the rest of the house.

from what I've read, you want a heavy, solid door like a solid core door. or, attatch thick plywood to the existing door. your door frame and hinges have to be able to support the extra weight though. the door also needs to have weather stripping to make it air tight.

What Travis said. Get yourself a prehung exterior solid-core door. The frame will be kerfed for weatherstriping. Put an exterior threshold down and a sweep on the bottom of the door and you're about as tight as your gonna get without going to sliding glass.

Any decent door supplier should be able to hook you up with this setup. But you may be wasting time at the Lowe's and Home Depot's for this stuff.

No home depot and lowes will have pretty much anything anyone else has and usually cheaper. I'm in the new home construction business and you can get the exact door you're talking about there probably around 300 350 maybe not even that much I usually have a sidelight(glass to one side of the door frame) with that. You can also get glass sliders too. Last time i checked they had several sizes and shapes of steel exterior doors(36" standard) and wood also, wood is very expensive but heavy and solid and IMO beautiful. If you choose wood make sure its well supported and hung they can be extrememly heavy. And don't make the mistake of a hollow wood door, many people think because its actually wood its solid which most aren't.

I've been looking at doors too, as its one of the last things I have do do to finish my studio. I've found a product at Home Depot that I am probably going to go with. The doors are called Safe and Sound. They are interior doors and are available as a knock down ( means it includes frames, jambs, door, etc.) A 32 " wide door kit will run you $155 CDN. They are a solid door. I am going to install a threshold, sweep, and weatherstripping. Hope this helps.

If you look around, you can find soliod door "seconds" for far cheaper.

I paid 25 cad for mine, 3 for some wood filler, and 10 for some paint, done.
