I moved my studio back to my house. Sick of $1100.00 per month. I figure, if The Hit Factory closed....were all doomed, lol! Just threw it all in a space. I'll have to tighten up the area in the next few weeks.

Yea, renting space for a studio in this day and age is a bit rediculous. With Microsoft peddling the myth that anyone can be a star by using their products on a PC, and all the homestudios in existance today, it's not a profitable scenario. Maybe 20 years ago. Even Oceanway is closing. What I don't understand is where all these graduate wannabees of Recording schools think the jobs are. Ha! The way things are going, I bet within 2 to 3 years even world class studios will have ROBOTS for engineers Just kidding but in a way I'm not. Assembly line manufacture of "recording stars" has been happening for a long time already, so its only a matter of time. Hell, it may come to the point where automatic "creation" of music and control of it for the mass's by Clear Channel type monopolies may come to pass. Who knows. Things are getting mighty wierd out there already. Ms. Simpson is a good example. With modern technology, who the hell needs talent? A hot bod and a nasty stage presence....aka Ms Speers, and a ton of marketing money is what it takes, not necessarily talent. Not that she doesn't have, but....Ms Simpson??? Fuck. Well, enough rant.
Anyway, good luck gettin in the HR groove.

For me , I charges $28.00 per hour. I can work a LOT less at home and doing remotes and clear more money at the end of the month and work whenI want to work. Oh, the picture of the mic in the top left side of my post is a 60's U87 I bought from the closed Hit Factory....at least something good came of it!

It can be Rick... depends mostly on location, and reputation I think.

With all the home studios (like you said), I'd want to be located in, or right against a major city... but out in the woods, I wouldn't bother unless I owned the building outright, and could rent some of it out to "break even" or make a profit.

Eventually I'll convert my warehouse to a studio... but not for a couple of years. I have too many car parts to figure out what to do with.

Nice to see your back with the homerecording. Just a couple questions about your set up.. what board is that and what are the 2nd set of faders above the level faders for?? lol Thanks man!

I can't tell what board it is but i can tell you what the faders are.

The top row of faders is "normally" the channel faders to tape and the bottom row is "normally" the monitor faders from tape.

The board looks very similar to the SSL I use at school but then again most large format consoles do

Ahhh... I get it! It's so it'd be the same as on my roland 2480 with the "input mixer" and the "track mixer"? Thanks!

Who's board are we talking about? If you mean mine those are not faders above the "first" set of faders. Although they DO look like it in that picture. They are solo and mute buttons. It is an AMR ( Audio Media Research) put out by Peavey.....yeah Peavey. Interesting,I bought it from John Kay of Steppenwolf about 4 or 5 years ago. Kenny Loggins was an endorser also.It has been a good board so far. John K. used it for his last solo CD and the last 2 Steppenwolf CD's so he told me. In all honesty, all he used it for was monitoring. All inputs went through Neve preamps and into Otari 24 track digital recorder. :
