using Click Track with a 424 MkII

Hey gents!

Is there a way of hooking-up a Dr. Rhythm machine (using it as a click track) to the 424 mkII, while recording on all (4) Channels. . . ? I don't need the click to be recorded, . . .just heard through the headphone during recording as a tempo reference. . . any suggestions?

Run the outputs of the durm machine to one of the extra input channels - monitor that channel while recording on the others.....

you would have to record the rhythm/click on a track, in order to get it to sync up consistantly with other instruments once you start recording them. you could do as bear suggests, but that would only work for the first track(s) you record. To add on afterwards, the click would be gone. That might work fine if you're first instrument to tape is something that the rest can key off of, like a rhythm guitar or another percussion part.

Personally, what I do, is record the click. Record 3 more tracks of keeper stuff, then record over the click with the 4th instrument. By the time you get there, you likely won't need the click anymore unless you are doing something really out there.

Yeah, Ultimately, recording the click to its own track is the way to go~ This way you have a firm beat when recording your other tracks. . .and theirs definitely no guess work, or interpretation of the rhythm. . .

But, with only 4 tracks to work with, . . . I think what we plan to do is record the bass and drums using the click as a monitor-- This way we will have a solid rhythm track to build on, . . .


Also, what input on the 424 mkII would work best to monitor the click-track, . .and what switches should be engaged on the 424 to make this work . . .?

just depends what type of cable your click machine uses - assuming it has RCA outs, I would just plug it into the sub input. you could just use one of the jacks, even, since you don't need stereo for your click. Then arm (either direct or buss L/R) whatever track you want to record it on. I think that's all it takes. Just mess around with it, and you'll figure it out in no time.
