2 questions

1) Can (2) m-audio firewire 410 be used at the same time to double the channels?

2) On any interface (for example 8 analouge i/o) can all 8 outputs be used at the same time as the inputs? Or can only a total of 8 channels be used like 8i/0o, 4i/4o, 2i/6o etc?

Thanks.

1.) I don't know the specifics of that interface, but as with a lot of interfaces nowadays, you should be able to do that.

2.)Depends on the interface, but I would say that 99% of them can. I would bet cold cash that the M-Audio would be able to do that with no problem (if your computer can handle it, that is).

i got a motu 828 (firewire) and i can use all 10 inputs AND outputs at the same time, no problem, firewire is rock solid

i even connected my old soundblaster live EXTIGY (usb) to my computer, only to use the midi in, and it works well together with my motu, no errors or conflicts

so i guess buying two firewire units will work fine

something i have wondered about.........why the hell do these companies make interfaces with setups like 10 outs and 4 ins? 10 ins and 4 outs seems alot more appealing to me. what's wrong with these people?

About the using two units, would I plug them both into different ports on the PC or daisy chain them since each unit has 2 ports?

They are for surround sound setups, like for watching DVD video and stuff like that.

or to make mixdowns,
you can record with just four inputs,
imagine that you record eight or ten tracks,
then when everything is recorded you want to run all those eight or ten outputs to your mixer with compressors and everything hooked up,
and then you just record the stereo output of your mixer

thats one of the reasons i think those cards exist
