Recording On A Budget/compressor?

I Am Currently Recording Through My Yamaha Mg16-4 Mixer And
A Delta 1010lt ...and Of Course Some Various Akg Shure And Oktava Mics.......i Am On A Budget And Need The Most Bang For My Buck...
I Am Debating On What My Next Peice Of Gear Should Be??? I Was Thinking Of Acquiring A Compressor For Input Channels???
How Much Will A Compressor/limiter Improve My Sound Other Than Stopping Peaks... In Comparison To Compressing After The Track Is Recorded With Plug Ins ???

Invest in an RNC FMR compressor. They run for under $200.00. They are THE best compressors in the world for that price range. It's one of those long term investments you will like. Here is the link to the product:

Talking

I noticed it right away! I guess I'm used to reviewing engineering documents at work with less than stellar grammar, and things jump out at me very easily.

I Two Find It Very Annoying And Distracting. What Do U Think?

What instruments are you recording? I find that I prefer to run things in without compression... unless it's a percussion instrument. If you run at 24bit then the noise floor is low enough that you don't need to run the inputs too near 0db anyway.

I second the RNC compressor. Versatile and sounds good.

drpfeffer is an unknown quantity at this point
If you really need a compressor, there is no way around RNC for the best bang for the buck in the cheaper end.. but do you really needc a comp..? I solely use software compressors like blockfish etc. and apply the compression after the track is recorded, when mixing.

If your only pre's are those in the yamaha mixer, maybe you should consider investing in a better preamp..?

just my opinion..

Haveing a hardware comp to compress on the way in is nice sometimes, but I get the feeling your money could be better spent elsewhere. What's your complete signal path, what's your monitoring setup?

EVERY source on this board it seems would point to the FMR RNC! I have found that any largely unanimous opinion on this board has always been very reliable!

I have found the complete opposite. Because people working on a "home recording" budget don't get to try many things, so there opinion is based on their limited experience with the few pieces of gear they own.

What are you doing for monitoring at the moment? (that includes acoustic treatment).

I think that is true for a lot of boards, but this board seems to have a large %posters that actually do this for a living. If anything I would say this board is maybe a bit slanted towards professional recording rather than home recording.
