388 no play,no FF,no rew,no fun

during my last session my tascam stopped mid record. when i push play it starts for a second then stops. rew same, ff same. i tried some of the solutions to similar problems i read about here but no luck. when i took the tape off the motors spun both directions. the capstan also works.

any ideas?
thanks jon city.....butt city

May be adjustment of the tension arms. I know the position of these arms control the takeup reel motors. I would think if the right hand tension arm (the one after the tach roller) is positioned too low, the machine would interpret it as the tape having run off the left reel, and shut the transport off.
I'm a little new with the 388, but try pushing the right tension arm "up ( toward the reel) slightly and see if the transport engages and runs when you press play. There is an adjustment foe these arms somewhere, but i"m at work and dont have the manual here....

Try it...let me know.

Arrow Start by taking off the top hatch and checking the fuses.
