problems with mixer into computer

i have an alesis multimix 8 usb thats running (usb obviously) into my laptop, and im using cubase LE, and i cant get the seperate channels of the mixer to be seperate channels on the software. im pretty sure im supposed to be able to do this but if not then im stupid. but supposing i can why is it not working? i installed the drivers when connecting the mixer(i think). any ideas?

The specs show stereo digital I/O.

So you have two digital channels in, and two digital channels out.

If you want to record two seperate tracks, you need to arm them individually. You should have a drop-down menu that shows your USB device as the source. Are you saying you only have the stereo option and not also a pair of L & R channels to choose from in the menu???

um ok actully its not even taking a signal in at all from the mixer. i see the menu where it has one or two or both if stereo, but the only soung coming in is the little microphone built into my computer.

well it seems u havent selected the correct soundcard
