Drum Panorama and Level Problem

Hello,

I've been mixing drums for the longest time with just 3 mic's in the traditional triangular pattern. I just recently purchased an Edirol UA-1000 with 10 ins and I am trying to record with a mic on each drum of a 5 piece set. The problem is that the overheads seem to pick up the cymbals fine, but pick up too much of the snare. I have an SM57 on the snare and when I try to put that, in the least, back into the mix the snare is just too much. Do I need to play around with overhead mic placement some more? I know this really depends on the drum sound that I am going for. I'm really looking for something in between the roomy sound that the 3 mic system gives and a slightly gated sound that I can spread across the panorama.

Thanks,
Jamie
