I recieved the following note from Yamaha-
" Hi----essentialy there is no manual service mode on the md8/md4/ ¯-the adjustment mode on the md8 is only accessible from a pc running special software-----if your md8 needs to be serviced for some reason, it must be sent back to us as there are no servicers within the continental u.s. that have the required equipment--------please call714-522-9000 " but I'm not so sure I believe it. |

Yo Goblin:
Get that dude who said he was a tech writer to explain this MODE, and not Ala Mode either. Green Hornet |

I've just put my MD8 in for a fix and was told by the tech guy that they are the only place in Australia qualified (or kitted-out) to service the device. Not sure what 'continental US' means but I would have thought that if there is a service location in Oz there'd have to be at least a few in the US?
By the way, the problem was that channel/track 3 would record OK (at least I think it was OK) but no sound on playback - meters going as per normal but no sound output. Curious to know how many MD8 users HAVEN'T had to return the unit for a fix or service.... UPDATE: The problem was a dry joint which I think Kelly mentioned was a strong potential bugbear with the MD8. [Edited by Blackwood on 09-24-2000 at 18:46] |

I havent. But I'm always VERY nice to it. Alwayds use a dust cover, clean out dust, leave the phantom off when I plug stuff in, etc.
