Kurzweil k2600 repair questions

ok hears the deal, I volunteered to repair a key on this 2600 and not ever owning one I think I got myself into something I shouldnt have. Torn apart many a keyboard but this one doesnt want to come apart, I could use some help on this. All the screws come out the back and the top control panel should come off but its not budging, I know I am missing something but I cant figure out what. As for the repair, there is a object jammed up in one the the black keys and it sticks, very frustrating when you're trying to play. So anyways, any repair techies out there that could lend some advice would be greatly appreciated. Tried to google a service manual with no luck.

Other then that, I am new to the site and it looks pretty cool, hope to be fixture for awhile.

I'm stumped, with all the people who know so much about keyboards on this forum I am shocked that there arent of you that have taken any of these boards apart. I guess I am stuck trying to call Kurzweil. Maybe next time.

I have4 taken the boards apart, and installed all options for various people around here. I could fix keys for your 2500, but I do not have service manuals for the 2600, sorry.

I believe the directions for opening the case are in your manuals.

There is a k2600 mailing list, you should ask for advice there.

Yeah , this is crazy, I've taken all my keyboards apart to fix one thing or another but this one, I took all the screws out that I thought would release the lid but it wont budge. Obviously I am missing some screws but I dont want to start undoing things and have a bigger problem. Thanks for the info you gave, every little bit helps. I'm trying to avoid calling Kurzweil, just my luck they will charge me for the call.

I have a K2600 and have taken it apart. As I recall, I first took off both end pieces and then started taking the screws off the back and bottom. You can tell which ones not to remove as there is a cut-out around them. Also, there is a series of screws down the middle of the bottm that attach to a metal infrastructure that holds top and bottom together. I remember not being sure whether to take these out or not because they were a bit hard to unscrew. However, they do need to come out and don't be afraid.

I layed out all the screws, and there are a lot of them, out in a pattern so I could get them all back in the right place.

Be careful taking the top and bottom apart as there are a number of wires that connect on both surfaces and you don't want to pull them apart. Take it apart slowly and look inside as you are separating it and you will see what wires to be careful about pulling out.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Bet of luck.

Ron

Cool, finally the answer I've been waiting for, seemed like years (1 day). Thanks though, I appreciate the info. The end caps, I didnt notice any screws holding them in place, I need to look again perhaps they are on the bottom also or do they lock in and need to be snapped out. It sounds very similar to the DX7s when it came to taking that apart. Actually as I'm thinking of it the similarities are uncanny, you think they are made at the same plant? Well anyways that was a bit of useless thoughts. Thanks again and I will let you know it I run into anymore problems.

If you take the screws out on the back of the unit nearest the ends you will then be able to get the end caps off.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Good Luck
