my2cents will become famous soon enough
only hearing them will provide the answer. names mean little when it comes to cymbals as they vary from cymbal to cymbal. bring your cymbals when you go to check out cymbals you're thinking of buying.

my cymbal set-up(s):

home kit:
21" Zildjian k custom special dry ride
20" A. Zildjian ride w/ 4 rivet holes (but no rivets) from the '60s
18" A. Zildjian thin crash (broken, but still sounds ok)
14" cheap-o Camber hi-hats

band/gig kit"
22" a. zildjian from the '70s
20" a. zildjian medium thin crash (also sounds good as a second ride)
18" paiste alpha crash
14" zildjian mis-matched hi-hats (bottom is a new beat, not sure what the top is)

I'd have to sit down behing your kit to answer that. But I don't see why you would want a third 16" crash cymbal.

Here's my current setup:
14" HH, 20" ride, 19" + 16" crash, all Zildjian A Customs
And if the venue is big enough I pull out my cannon. A 22" Zildjian China Boy Low.

Sitting in my exclusive stash is are a 150 yr old 22" Zildjian K ride and an 18" crash, spun in Istanbul with the hammerer's signature under the bell. I've only use them once on my band's latest recording.

Cheers
Iain

Nice. I like that crash. It's nice to have at least one large crash. My current set up is:

15" Zildjian A New Beat hi hats
18" Zildjian A Medium Crash
20" Zildjian A Custom Ride (used as a crash)
24" Zildjian A Medium Ride

I'd like to ad another crash, maybe a 19" A Medium Thin Or an A Custom. I might get a 17" I haven't decided yet.

My cymbals

I have Paiste Hihats, Paiste crash, unidentified huge heavy ride with hammer marks in it.

I also hammered some interesting effects cymbals out of old thick brass trays.

Time for a thread revival... Here's my set-up:

20" Vintage Avedis Ride
15" (yes, 15) Vintage Avedis Crash
15" Vintage Paiste Hi-hats (no idea what model)
16" Vintage Avedis 'Swish'
and finally, for that deep, loud, ringing sound on record;
16" Stagg Medium Heavy crash

I normally only use Hi-hats, 15" Crash, and Ride.

I can. if you like crashes that typically get in and get out (fast crashes), i can certainly see a 3rd 16in, b/c most of them are like that and it'd be a variation on a theme. neil peart uses 2 of the "same" 16in cymbal on his kit--on opposite sides, very convenient when you want the "same" crash sound available at 2 different locations.

personally, i like smaller crashes. 18's are too gongy for me. plus, 16's take up less room which is always good.

anyway, here's my lineup....not all is hanging at all times:
14in new beats (80s, 2 sets, both sound different)
10in K Custom Dark Splash
12in Wuhan china
14in A thin crash
16in A Custom thin crash
16in Scimitar Crash (surprisingly good sounding)
18in A Crash/Ride (80s logo)
18in A Brilliant Medium Ride (early 70s moon/star logo)
20in K Custom Dark Ride

at the moment, i've actually got the 14in A crash in use as a hihat bottom--it sounds very nice there--less volume and a brighter sounding "chick". certainly cheaper than a new set of hats. and that scimitar 16in crash sounds surprisingly good--especially with mallets for crescendo rolls. that's the only reason it's still around.....

the next crash i'm gonna pick up is one of those 15in K Dark ones and maybe its 17in sibling........

cheers,
wade
