Getting ready to start a big project and am looking for some input on the pro's and con's of using Truetape 32Bit recording over 24Bit. I am using 24Bit hardware and record@96khz. Anybody been down this road? Thanx in advance.

I use Cubase SX, and from what I've noticed, TrueTape is simply a plugin that simulates how a tape would sound. It doesn't record the tracks this way.
I'm pretty sure that if you have 24 bit hardware, you won't be able to use the benefits of 32 bit recording. I may be wrong on this note though.

nope!
Sorry Alex but you're wrong on both accounts. True tape saturation IS recorded (assuming it is turned on).
No one has more than 24 bits yet - but using 32bit float points helps with the computations and is most noticeable when adding effects, especially reverbs. -Rez Last edited by RezN8; 08-12-2005 at 06:15.. Reason: oikintshpellnuffin |

I have played around with the True Tape feature and notice its' affect. Do you guys recommend it because I also notice it uses up a lot of juice. Or should I ask, if you guys apply it to most or certain projects?
btw ~ what's Rep Power mean? |

32 bit float is actually free of distortion and clipping in the file structure. It is almost an almost endless dynamic floor. But you can still clip on the converter side which still sounds horrible.
Where it really helps like mentioned is with plugins and stuff. And mixdown. But it does not give the sound of tape saturation. Danny |
