Yahama DD-5 Question

hi. i'm a newbie to all midi/recording, so this question may seem silly.

recently i found an old yahama DD-5 drum machine. it's an old four pad simple machine. however, it's got a midi out.

i'm wondering how that works, the midi out. does that mean that i can play sounds through the dd-5? and if so, how would i go about doing that?

It means you can hit the pads and that can send MIDI messages out to an external device which can respond to them...

Here are links to two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two.

I use a DD-5 too, and you'll need to play it with drum sticks and not your hands --- like I tried to do for a whole live set once. Just once.
