new to cubase

ok i just got a copy of cubase sx1 and i dont know how to make the midi work on the vst instr. i hook up my keyboard and the program controls the keyboard but i cant get any sound out of the keyboard onto the screen or to play out of the system, i am useing a cheap keyboard till i get another one but the midi works ok can anyone help me with this problem i need help bad and i dont know what to do. oh yea would love to have someone tell me which program is better pro-tools or cubase??????? i am useing a m-audio uno usb to work the midi, and a casio ctk-611 please help me someone asap

And you didn't RTFM because????? The Getting Started documentation on the install CD is very comprehensive.... start there.

Of course, chances are that the copy of Cubase SX that you just got is a crack, in which case you have no documentation..... so contact Steinberg tech support, I'm sure they'll be happy to help you!

I prefer Pro Tools definetly to Cubase SX. Although botha re really great programmes. Pro Tools is realy user friendly and can be picked up pretty quickly. Beat detective is cool and the editing is fekin brilliant on Pro Tools.
But Pro Tools is very expensive so I would get Cubase SX unless I was loaded and serious about mixing.

Im sorry, but get real!!!!!!! "I would get Cubase SX unless I was loaded and serious about mixing" I had a Digi 002 and I got rid of it because I think Cubase is a more powerfull and more unlimiting software for less money..... and the learning curve for Cubase is no different from Pro Tools!

ooooh this could get dangerous...... I dont know either program very well but after using Cubase, the midi side of pro tools seemed very difficult to work with.. but i have been told that midi is a relatively new feature for pro tools (or just isnt viewed as being important) compared to cubase......but that was only what i was told.... im sure this arguement exists somewhere else go find it....

Yeah well the MIDI might not be the best, but I dont use MIDI really. Only when doing electronic dance music etc. Usually i record real sources for rock bands.

By the way I AM already REAL!!! so i dont need to "get real" as you said carter.
I was voicing my personal opinion and thats all.

It's cool ecktronic I was not trying to flame you so dont take it personal, I have used both programs and I perfer Cubase over Pro Tools...

I use all 3 programs,but protools is where i mix audio,and yes protools is straight forward.I recently bought cubase SL3 and wasnt able to use it because i couldnt find an instrument deffinitions for my roland xp30,so i kinda tossed it aside,because my cakewalk(home studio) is awesome when it comes to midi,but theres a lot of work recording my keyboard(midi cakewalk) to play in Protools(audio) its pain because i have to alighn the tracks one at a time.But it works.Now if i get the midi right with cubase i might consider it,but till then the teck support is craped out,come on Yamaha hurry up!!!
My o1v96 is impatiently waiting to get married to cubase,lol.
