Porta One and tape que controls

First, congrats to Dragon for the best on the net re home recording! My question is regarding the tape que controls on the porta one. Are they indeed only used for punch in effect? Why do they only affect the headphone volume? Of course, I have had this 4 track for awhile and do not have a manual. I have other systems for recording but nothing seems to match the feel I have for this analog stuff. I must confess, that I have never used the punch in for effects, I prefer recording with effects just for the better feel of playing. Although, in reviewing past
threads, my sound might be better by punching the effect.
Well, enough of this novel, any help would be appreciated!
