Roland DS-8 Monitors

Hey guys, Great forum u guys got here!

Yeah I saved up a little amount of cash n wanted to buy some new monitors for the studio im tryin to set up, at first my budget for monitors waas set at 500 and so i looked into the Tapco S-8's, Event TR-8s, Behringer Truths, and of course the KRK RP8s...

as u can see im tryin to get most "boom" for my buck... woofer wise...

I went to a number of stores to hear their display of monitors and lemme tell you, im damn near disappointed at all their setups, just beaten to crap, like someone used em for a couple football games, but some in beter condition than others, i got to hear Event TR8s FRESH out of the package, and i was really hoping to hear some greatness out of em but sucks to say, they werent that great sounding with the cd's i brought in to hear em w/... i a/b/c'ed em with Bluesky 2.1's and then the ROLAND DS-8s... and lemme tell you the DS-8s sounded proper, i mean u can hear the money difference between the DS-8s and the TR8s, so in an almost impulsive move, i decided to purchase the DS-8s, but im still waiting on em to get here...

My Question is.... HAs Anyone Else Messed Around with these Things?

they got 24 bit 192khz digital inputs on em in XLR, SPDIF, and analog TRS 1/4"... its pretty swank, i must say.... but im hoping when i start getting to work on these, they wont turn out to be... welll... not so great... but i guess that has to do with my mixing skills too eh? lol

Anyways yea... DS-8's, No reviews on em at all that i've heard of or seen on the internet... Please Give Some Input!

EDIT: heres a link to what they are... in case any of you dont know what the hell I'm talkin about---- http://www.zzounds.com/item--ROLDS8

Yeah the cheaper Events lack a little to be desired, but I thought the Rolands did as well. I opted for the Older bros to the TR8's the 20/20bas V2's and man there is a tremendous difference between the two set ups. The only Rolands I tried were the smaller I think 5 inch ones but like I said I didn't like them at all. Anyway hope the Rolands work for you and let us know what you think.

ya man, i heard my buddies pairs of the older versions of the SP6 and SP8... i like em a LOT... good bass response in my not very educated opinion...

but i have compared with a lotta monitors now, and the rolands sounded pretty good for the price, one thing that might annoy me is i thoguth they sounded a little "metallic" but, so did the blueskys, and many favors those... but thats their opinions...

i have tried the hr824s, hr624s, V8s, and those Aynaudio 6" ones, those sounded good by the way, not too impressed with the v8s however, and the RP8s well they just didnt sound nearly as good as the V8s.... so i pretty much let go the KRKs and focused on the Events....

But like i said, straight out of the box tho, the TR8s really didnt sound "full" they sounded like well, i dunno... just not that great lol....

one thing on the rolands however that sucks, the bass freq prolly doesnt hit below 50hz, and so a subwoofer prolly will be needed, as i was prolly gonna expect in the long run anyways
