12 string
If I want to buy the 12 string version of a 7 string guitar would that be a fourteen string?

Sounds logical, Captain.
The problem I foresee is buying replacement strings for such a beast. The bottom three strings would be doubled with the top four being pairs an octave apart. Depending whether the 7th pair is higher or lower, you would have to buy a 12-string set and an extra double or octave pair for the 7th strings. You may end up buying one or two extra sets and throwing a bunch of strings away just to get the two you need. Wait for the Steve Vai Signature 14. Then at least one manufacturer will have packaged sets! |
