Unhappy Problem with CE2K in 32 bit float save-as

This problem just cropped up, enhence my new membership here. I have been "re-recording" for many years and never had this problem till now.

I record an LP in 32 bit float, save it as "side1". I close side1 and do "side2". I save and close side2 and re-open side1 to edit. CP2K has to rebuild the peak file each and every time I re-load the wav. (doesn't do that in 16 bit, it saves in that format). Now, after re building the peak, the file opens and I edit it, maybe for clicks, maybe too long a lead-in, maybe need to normalize, what ever, I "save-as" "side1Norm" and close. When I re-open side1Norm to down sample to 16 for burn, the peak opens immediately (no re-build) and the file is completely distroted and clipped out. The edit windows are solid green from 90db to 40db both right and left. But here is the hook, Windows Media Player 9 and up can handle 32 bit and plays these distroted wavs without a problem but CP2K will not. I can't down convert the files for burn. Any ideas? Oh, the sound card is a Gina24 from Echo on an Asus A7V133 with an AMD XP 2400+ and a gig of RAM. Thanks.
