Boss Gt-6

I was thinking of buying a Boss gt-6, does anyone have a reason why I shouldn't? I heard that the effects sound too digital, if thats the case can anyone recomend an effects processer that isn't?

I love mine. The only negative against it (and it's a pretty big one depending on what kind of music you play) is that if you're looking for a pure tube distortion sound, you're not gonna get it out of this pedal. Every other effect is amazing, though. The distortions can be fucked with enough to be useable, but be ready to do some tweaking to those factory presets.

I say go for it.

The preamps suck ass and the distortions are pretty bad to. There's a site dedicated to the boss gt-6 link I've been on here for quite a while and they do help. What kind of amp are you using?

If I'm not looking for all the amp modeling should I just be looking at an ME-50. It was my understanding that the effects have the same electronic topology as their stompboxes. I personally have no use for amp modeling and I really don't want to spend the extra money for it.

Any comments on the GT8?

STOP! The ME-50 from what I read is a big no no.

The reason I asked about what kind of amp you are using is that you don't have to use the gt-6's pre-amps you can use the 4CM (search it on the site) and that lets you by-pass the gt-6's pre's and distortions and lets you use your amps distortions.

Now the effects.

They are not exactly like their stomp box counterparts there isn't as much controll over the gt-6's effects but he if you want compleate controll over all the fx you'll find in the 6 go ahead and pay $2000.

You still do get a very good sound out of it though.

Id say go 4 it.

Ok the effects are real nice and there is alot you can do by adding effects, controling effect parameters with the volume pedal or foot switch button (CTL). The delay can be set by foot tapping a button when configured right.
Can be tricky to configure stuff as the instruction book aint the best.

Alot of the distortions sound pretty nasty, but it is possible to get a nice distortion although may be a little too processed. Alot of tweaking needs to be done.
Great how it has a global EQ (hi and lo), 4 band EQ section with Q for each setting you make and also an effect which is an even better EQ, might be 6 band with Q, so there is alot of control over your tone.

If you want to stay away from the (kinda) processed distortion you could get a seperate analogue distortion stomp box and im sure you can hook with the GT6.

I know I am glad I got mine as it is soo handy for saving effects settings and most of the effects are pretty good. But I would go for the GT8 as it is newer and will prob have better quality (and more) effects.

PS: Remember to check the input and output levels in one of the menu's so that your signal aint clipping.

I've used the GT3 for a long time. I pretty much guessing that the sounds have stayed the same. Great for clean, punchy sounds and very thick metal-style distortions. Also good for some slightly dirty, punchy tone sounds.Great for special effects. Not good if you're looking for a tube/analog sound. If you're looking for great tone and a great analog/tube sound in an all-in-one unit, check out the Vox Tonelab SE before you buy the GT. Vox has got the tube sound down pretty good and board is ulta flexible. The Tonelab works better than the GT3 funcionally and is super easy to use. You can toggle effects independently of patches, 2 expression pedals, 2 amp model channels, insert switch, etc... It's a great unit and not much more expensive.

Definitely check it out before buying anything. American Musical Supply has a great 3-payment plan without having to get approved for credit.

I have a Pod 6-Mesa V twin- and an old boss G5. The G5 has them all beat. I play it thru a Marshall JCM 800 Which has nothing but power. You can tweak any of the setting on the G5-6 and make them do what you want. Or create your own sounds and save them for recall. I like it. But we all have different ideas of what rocks and what sucks.

Remember that if you aren't going to use the distortion from that processor (which will be mostly terrible) you will still have to run all of the effects in front of your amplifiers pre-amp stage, or all in the effects loop, if you follow what I'm saying. I personally think that alot of effects (such as delay, pitch shifting, etc.) belong in the effects loop and sound terrible plugged in ahead of the distortion, and vice versa. And I believe you can't run one of those processors in the effects loop of most amps. Just something to think about. I for one vote for stomp boxes!

metalhead is right about the effects loop...I haven't really been able to suss out how to make the GT-6 sound "right" when going through the loop. I just run mine between the axe and the amp, which is WAY better sounding.

My lead singer owns one of these. I agree, it is great. What I am trying to get out of the pedal is not distortion, its everything else, like wah, delay, sound on sound, and all the other bits. Is it more wise to buy something a bit more specific to my needs or even each individually?
