high end dull?

I'm listening to the proof of my Cd after mastering & the high end sounds "dull" to me, for lack of a better description. I've also heard the same quality fr certain DAW's like the Boss BR - 8 & even Yamaha AW - 16...

I'm wondering if too much compression cd cause this? Another possibility is that I did a lot of cut & paste editing & did not add dithering? I know it's hard to describe sound in words... I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks

Could be a bunch of things - Can you post before & after samples? Did the M.E. tell you what he used? Did you tell him what you were looking for?

There's one guy I know (I won't mention any names) that creamates almost everything he does with noise reduction - Can't figure out why for the life of me. *DULL* doesn't really come close to explaining it.

gd questions...

I don't have a before sample any more. I didn't ask what he used & just told him there's a lot of dynamic range & it probably needs to be squashed down some...
